Pechanga Casino Layoffs: Severance Package

Reportedly, details still being worked out on a severance package. Let's see if we can help Pechanga fill that requirement. Please comment on what your company provides for severance.

Mine allows a fair package:

1 week pay for each of the first 5 years
2 weeks for each subsequent year.
All remaining vacation time
Accrued vacation.
Assistance with finding a new job.

So somebody with 12 years should get 19 weeks pay plus vacations. During that time, they can pay into COBRA to maintain their health coverage.

WHAT WOULD YOUR COMPANY ALLOW? What should Pechanga do?

Help filling out all the paperwork, unemployment and such would be valuable.

Maybe some coupons for free meals?

Do employees get discounts? Allowing them to keep those for a few months? Although what would they use for income?

One thing that will be valuable is:

An exit interview. I believe that this will allow the "team member" to express themselves about how their work environment could be improved.

This allows the company to make needed changes in management style and direction.

While the Pechanga's don't "owe" their employees anything, it's still good business to provide an incentive for trained personnel to want to come back when the economic situation improves

Out of curiousity....does anyone know the number of tribal members getting the monthly checks...or is it a big secret like all else Indian?...how many members got disenrolled?...if we can actually see the numbers, it will greatly help your cause..because at this point ...it is all abstract...once the general public understands the hard numbers...it will make more sense....o pechanga..can you give that information out?...

Phil... surely you meant for the tribal casino workers to shoot themselves..with "NORMAL WORKERS" gone they might have to work twize as hard.

I think OP's severance package is a sound one. It fair and also benefits those longer term employees that may be let go.

I would keep in mind the California's Department of Fair Employment and Housing will help you if you feel there was discrimination. I believe that is where you would file harrassment claims.

Our company only gives 2 weeks of severence pay, plus vacation (required by law) pay. In one case a whole office was closed and the people in that office received assistance in finding new employment.

I say all the laid-off employees get together and file a lawsuit for the tons of cigarette smoke exposure the Casino put them in day after day...it is up to your employer(pechanga) to protect its employees and patrons...

I belive that the casino should allow a volunitary layoff list , to allow employees that less effected by the layoff. Many employees dont have family ties , or ties with housing and would be glad to leave. Why not allow these employees to sign up for layoff.

I'd bet that if someone who wanted to leave asked their manager to put them on the list, they'd get the package...
