Unlike Pechanga and Picayune, Hoopa Valley Tribe Does the Right Thing for the Children. Pechanga has eliminated 100 children from the Tribe

Pechanga and Picayune Rancheria, eliminate children and elders, destroying their livelihood and health and on the other side, Hoopa Valley Tribe does the right thing: Bringing more into the fold, adding 800 to the tribe.

Working in the tribal courts for more than seven years, first as chief tribal judge and then as a judge consultant, Byron Nelson Jr. saw many American Indian children who weren't getting the services they needed because of their race. Or, more specifically, what race they weren't.
”I could see a lot of children slipping through the cracks because they weren't protected by the Indian Child Welfare Act,” said Nelson, who was born and raised in Hoopa and is a member of the Hoopa Valley Tribe.
Nelson said it's the main reason why he campaigned to have the blood quantum for Hoopa Valley tribal membership changed. After months of heated and controversial discussion, the tribe held a special election early last month proposing to change the enrollment requirement from being one-quarter Hupa to one-eighth Hupa.

And THIS is the reason why Pechanga, Picayune, Redding and other tribes that have hurt THOUSANDS of their family, should be held with disdain. Do not patronize those who have hurt so many.

The Hoopa's must be a bunch of rubes. Can you imagine them doing something so...so thoughtful for their people?

Pechanga has taken their education and political clout and hurt so many of their tribe. How can they look at themselves in the mirror each day?

The Hoopa Valley tribe has shown up the Temecula Indians in a big big way. There is still time for the Pechanga to quit throwing money away trying to convice the people of Riverside county that they are good. They ARE NOT. But, if they do the right thing and bring those they kicked out back where they rightfully belong and allow those who should be in the tribe, IN, it would be worth so much in good publicity. Imagine, another 800 people, speaking about how Pechanga has finally done what is right. A small donation to schools DOES NOT make up for the heartache and DEATH that they have perpetrated on their family members.

Sad,sad,sad to see Pechanga growl.
Power & Greed are all for now.

To hurt them, take their money or weaken their power.
Both choices are tough to flower.

CCP= Greed & evil!!

The Beauty of Soverignty would be that Pechanga could make it right, then we all, could sleep at night,FAT CHANCE.

EVIL REIGNS AT PECHANGA FOR NOW.

As we pray for what is right. What is in our souls makes us whole. With that in hand, we will never dispand. Fight on for the Hunter clan!!!!!!!!

It is not in vain.

There are still Hunters involved, and I'm certainly not the only one. I just have the pulpit right now.

There is plenty of room for more and we'll be glad to have all the family involved.

Pechanga is leaking from small cuts and the people can still come to their senses.

What do you mean the Hunters have given up?

Someone who has posted under the name of 'Amo'kat, which means Hunter in the Luiseno language, I am sure is still very much involved as are others who are continuing the fight, Creeper to name another one, is also a direct descendant of Paulina Hunter.

I have a feeling that very soon there will be more rejoining the cause.

OP is not alone and he never will be!

Wonderful HOOPA VALLEY TRIBE!

Apparently, not all tribes are like Picayune Rancheria. Didn't Cosby refuse to play there???

I bet Hoopa doesn't have a casino.

I'm a Hunter and I haven't given up, Obama isn't the only one calling for change in 2009!

Actually the Hoopa Valley Tribe does in fact operate a small gaming operation on their reservation in NW Cal. Gaming is not purely the imputis behind tribal disenrollments. While it may be easy for outsiders to try to attach a single reason to tribal removals, the fact is that tribal gaming is a motive for some slimy tribal leaders, the fact is that gaming itself is not the problem, it is a lack of oversight of tribal leaders that come to power and violate their members rights. Don't purely blame gaming, that would be an incorrect assumption and the Hoopa are a good example of that. OP also there are many stories in our state where tribes have set BQ's or other req's at level that are member friendly, and completely opposed (morally and tactfully) to the scourge of disenrollments.
