Gabrieleno Tribe Fires Salvo At Navy's Wrongful Transfer of Remains

The Andrew Salas led Gabrieleno Band of Mission Indians has fired off a letter to Ray Mabus, Secretary of the Navy, expressing concern about the Navy giving  the remains of 469 ancestors, resting on San Nicolas Island to the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians. We wrote about it here   and HERE

There are numerous factions of Gabrieleno and Gabrieleno Tongva tribes.  Our understanding is that there will be cooperation on this matter.   Please help add your voice by sharing this post to your emails, Facebook and Twitter.  Don't let Pechanga get away with usurping the Gabrielenos ancestors

Big time NAGPRA violation! Wouldn't it be nice if the federal government followed their own laws?

Can anyone imprison a nation forever? F-you Macarro !

Certainly Pechanga, which abuses their own people, stolen $600 million dollars, violated civil rights, kept rightful Pechanga people out, while paying back Bobbi LeMere by enrolling her two sisters...couldn't have anything sinister at heart...right?

Pechanga has a lot of explaining to do.

WHY wouldn't they just pick up the phone and call the Gabrielenos?

The Book has been written and the Bad Actors are being highlighted again. Come on Macarro et al, follow custom and tradition. Honor ALL Ancestors rights and ALL the good will flow easier. Start fixing the flaws that have been made under your own boat. Do good things inside, settle the liars club issues and honor ALL ANCESTORS and their heirs.

Poor Macarro does not even know his own history. I feel sorry for this dude.

Is Dunlap, who lives on the Pechanga rez, but purports to be Gabrieleno one of the elders who went to the island?

The Bad Actors will have to explain their Lies and Misinformation now and after they leave the story. History is crystal clear. Honor our Ancestors. Tell the truth and accept it. Our time here is important. Our Ancestors are still with us, that's why we are ALL here.

The fact that the Gabrielenos cannot come together, leaves it much easier to pick their ancestors bones clean. Congtatulations Gabrielenos.

it is crazy to believe that a tribe that will throw their own living children and elders out into the street gives a damn about somebody else's ancestors bones there has to be an underlying reason why Pechanga would get into this

Anonymous said...

Pechanga has an ulterior motive. They must be working on claiming San Nicolas for their own. Chumash seem disinterested

Anonymous said...

Yeah if he can claim the bones then he can claim a connection to the land, which eventually he can claim land and open a Casino or something else on the Island.

What are the other Gabrieleno groups doing about this shameful matter?

Who has even heard of the Gabrielenos? Pechanga will wipe the floor with these people

It's amazing to think that the pechangas wouls take care of our ancestors remains, when they harmed their own living.

Hopefully, the Gabrielenos will use their strength of numbers to get the government's attention...

Is there anyone that really thinks this is a battle over which tribe is more powerful?

We honor our ancestors and their remains are sacred, as is the ground in which they are buried. To turn it into a pissing contest is an insult to the native spirit.

I say go piss in the wind and mop the floor with your casino check. Let the people who honor the remains preserve them so the spirits can rest in peace, while you pray to your money god.

The Federal Government IS EXEMPT from there own laws. Read them, it is written into almost every law they pass.

The government has no interest in protecting the individual Indian, that's why the want more of them.
