Temecula Council votes 5-0 to Sue Pechanga Tribe for Monies Owed

The Temecula City Council finds their "cojones".

Temecula and the Pechanga Band of LuiseƱo Indians appear headed for the courtroom after the City Council on Tuesday authorized legal action to force the tribe to pay for its casino's effect on city services.

Council members voted 5-0 to seek a legal remedy to a matter they thought was settled with the council's approval in March of a long-term agreement with the tribe.

"Needless to say, it's not something we want to do," Mayor Jeff Comerchero said after the meeting. "It would be my hope that this matter would be settled amicably."

Can the people of Temecula stand behind their city council? Simply do not go to Pechanga Resort and Casino until this matter is settled. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area and do your gaming at Pala or San Manuel.

Pechanga must be short on cash. It takes a ton of cash to support a corrupt tribal government. They have lots of sleazy attorneys and politicians to pay, and corrupt tribal leaders don’t work cheap. The tribal leaders also need to pay enough to the remaining tribal members to assure their silence. Fat checks to tribal membership pay for votes for the present tribal council. Most members will not stand up to the thugs and bullies that are now looting the tribe because they face disenrollment by their “leaders” and the loss of their generous incomes. It is important to Macarro that Pechanga cash is used to keep the payoffs going. They will get around to paying for those pesky city services later, after the grease has been spread around. After all, the Tribe has priorities.

People should email the council their support for standing up for their rights.

People should fire the city council for agreeing to terms they are not happy with, and then for wasting the city's money with this lawsuit. The wording in the contract makes the city wrong at least legally.

the city should tell the temecula folks who is that indian on their city seal?
