Should Federal Recognition of Chukchansi Be REVOKED?

This is a repost from 2012, but sadly, the situations have gotten WORSE not better.  LOOK what the BIA has wrought by not stepping in to protect Natives....from Natives.

The Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians, of Coarsegold near Fresno have drastically reduced their membership.   They have recently removed 200 people including their few remaining language speakers.  The BIA's director Dale Risling was quoted in 2007 saying there was nothing they could do "short of ceasing to recognize" the tribe because of the Martinez decision.   Well, how many would recognize the tribe from what is was in 2005?

I have put together a very rudimentary graphic that explains what the destruction of the Chukchansi populace looks like if you put them into buses to move them.   Once a proud convoy of 30 buses would have been used (at 50 people per bus) to transtport the tribe.   Now, after the tribe has thrown so many UNDER the bus, less than eight full buses would be needed.

I believe the BIA should cease to recognize THIS tribe, especially after the recent election debacle.

Will the BIA get its head out of the sand and exercise it's moral outrage?

The BIA has NO moral outrage, the job of the BIA used to be to make sure the American Indian population was assimilated into the white population. The disenrollment of Indian citizens from there respected Tribes is in direct line with there past goals. We are slowly being absorbed into the general population to disappear and vanish forever.

Yes, federal recognition should be revoked, they have become a laughing stock among their neighbors, the people are tired of dealing with them and they need to get rid of all three factions and have a council that includes a member from each family so all are represented.
I think the government does want to get rid of reservations, long ago they gave the Indians the worst land in an area and treated them poorly hoping the natives would see the white man's ways as being the best way to live and intermix more. Today the government likes the money from the Casinos but does not like giving the tribes extra money, grants, health care, etc. Who knows maybe they want to be able to take over the Casinos, since tribes are self destructing.

Chukchansi is a joke! Plain and simple. The only good thing coming out of there is that they are so bad and messed up as tribal leaders go they are bringing more and more attention to what's happening across native country with greed and corruption trying to hold onto power without caring for the tribe itself. I'm sure they will be the first to go down then the other corrupt greedy councils will fall soon after. Thanks for making that spot light brighter then ever Reggie and Nancy.

Chukchansi is in the process of making things right, with a new honest council on the land, only good will come for the people this year. Keep fighting for what's really right not just what outsiders want to think is right according to misrepresentations and lies. Unfortunately disenrollment happens sometimes its wrong, but sometimes its not.

More often than not it is wrong as, before gaming, it never happened on the scale it has been happening on since gaming. I would say it is on the order of at least 10 to 1 above what ever occurred before.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I believe MOST disenrollments are wrong, but as I said this new council is honest and although it won't happen over night they are taking steps in the right direction. It will take time to repair what damage, (what damage they can) but its been many years worth.
