Pechanga Councilman, Russell "Butch" Murphy Retires After 30 years of Service

We wish councilman Butch Murphy well on his retirement.  30 years of service to the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians is a noteworthy accomplishment.  Especially so for one who was adopted into our tribe.

We from the Hunter family wished we could do the same, offer our services to our tribe.  Alas, after 18 years, we've been kept from that opportunity.

May the Creator bless Butch, with a good retirement, and to help rightful people come back to Pechanga, where we belong.

Yes Butch was a good man. I remember Lawrence Madariaga going door to door on the Rez telling all of us to be sure and go to the Tribal meeting to vote to adopt Butch into the tribe. But wait…wasn’t Butch on the Tribal Council when they illegally diss enrolled Mr. Madariaga from his own Tribe?? Well I’m sure Lawrence has already asked God to forgive him for that….

I remember the conversation I had with the man. One thing I do know is that like all, he will stand before God and have to answer for what he did when he was walking on this earth. I know what he the rest of those like him have affected the lives up to the 5th degree of separation.

I thought adoption only included those before 1929?
