Received this information from our friend Cathy Cory, disenrolled member of the PRCI, Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians, a tribe which has violated the civil and human rights of nearly a THOUSAND Native Americans. This is a PERFECT way for you to get involved and have your voice heard.
If anyone has an opinion in regards to the questionable ethical choices of Fresno State in the recent appointment of Nancy Ayala, tribal "leader" at Picayune Rancheria to the Fresno State University Advisory Board by President Joseph I. Castro, please submit your comments via this website link:
http://www.fresnostate.edu/president/feedback/
my opinion? NO "tribal leader" from picayune should receive, or DESERVES, appointment to a board that is making important educational decisions for indians in the central valley native american community...those who participate in corruption and in the violation of THOUSANDS of american indians tribal, civil, and human rights should not be tolerated, much less glorified and rewarded!
BE HEARD, send your feedback. Remember, Fresno State takes students from all over the state, so this is NOT a jurisdictional issue.

Congress to Look into ENFORCEMENT of ICRA?
We are hearing that there will be a request for and oversight hearing into the enforcement of the Indian Civil Rights Act (ICRA)
With civil rights coming into focus, thanks to the AZ immigration law, it's high time that Congress have these hearings.
Due to the arbitrary and capricious actions tribes are taking against their own people. We hope to have confirmation of the request shortly. Indian Self Reliance was not meant to destroy Native Americans, which is what tribes like Pechanga, Picayune, Redding have done.

Do Pechanga Members PRAY for Forgiveness for Disenrollments and for their Illegal Moratorium?
Since it's the Easter Holiday Season, I thought I'd re-issue this post from last year:

It's interesting to think about what the remaining Pechanga members pray and think about when they go to church.
Do they pray that:
1. God won't remember what they have done to their family and ours?
3. I can come here and people will see me and think it wasn't me that voted against stopping
disenrollments
4. I can just give a little more to the collection plate and that will get me off the hook.
5. Please, God, let there be more slot machines.
6. Don't they know that $380, 000 per year is not enough for us to share?
7. Why are they always picking on us? Are civil rights, elder abuse, voting rights that important?
8. Why did those Hunters have so much evidence and STILL got disenrolled?
9. I sure hope the tribal council didn't lie about stopping any more disenrollments!
10. Please, God, I'm not really happy about it, but I didn't do anything about it
11. Are the terminated REALLY your people, Lord?
Should Christian customers patronize a business that treats its family so terribly? Should Christians spend money for dinner at a place that abused their elders and children? Should churches hold luncheons at a place like this? Please ask your local ministers and committees to not spend church funds at Pechanga.
Just as interesting a question: What has the parish priest talked to his flock out the situation? How much of the catechism has the CPP broken?
Are they still taking communion? What penance did they get for ruining the lives of so many?

CA Stonewall Democrats, SEIU say NO on 94-97
Add the California Stonewall Demcrats AND the Service Employees Internation Union (54,000 strong) in saying:
NO to Pechanga
NO to expanded gaming
NO to Propositions 94-97
Uncle Woody also says NO on expanded gaming:
Ask a public educator how much money he or she sees from California's Lotto. Go ahead... I'll wait. Not very much, you say? Then you can understand why Uncle Woody is less than impressed with the argument that Indian Gaming pumps millions of dollars into California's economy. When you factor in all the costs associated with gambling and its effects on the average family, that revenue pales by comparison.

Pechanga Man Describes Banishment by Pechanga Faction
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Udu5Yg40TdU
This is MUST SEE video. Now BANISHED by Pechanga, Joe Liska, son of Pechanga members describes how he was treated by the Pechanga tribe. He's a coming home person, caught in an unconstitutional (Pechanga's Constitutiona and Bylaws) moratorium.
Please watch.
Paulina Hunters Blog links here to this story, thank you.

AIRRO will Speak today on Pechanga going against the will of Californians
AIRRO VP John Gomez, SR will be speaking shortly at the Federal Building in Westwood. He will be discussing remarks made my Pechanga Chairman Mark Macarro to go ahead with expansion and not WAIT FOR the people of CA.
This is a perfect example of WHY Californians need to vote NO on Prop. 94.
Stay tuned!
I hope John Sr, will speak about Pechanga's unconstitutional moratorium he allows (against the Pechanga Constitution). NO on 94, No to Pechanga's denial of civil rights, No to Pechanga's elder abuse, No to CPP.

Elder Abuse by Pechanga?
Paulina Hunter's blog asks the question whether the Pechanga Bands disenrollment of their seniors constitute elder abuse? They have lost their medical care that they qualified for as members. And many were given so little notice, they couldn't get uninterupted coverage. The tribe wouldn't even allow COBRA.
There were over 50 Elders (Silver Feathers) forcibly removed from the tribe including those that have lived on the reservation for over 50 years. Does the AARP know about this? Who stands for the elders who suffered the termination of their cultural heritage.
Pechanga forgets that their most vaunted Silver Feather, Antonio Ashman knew Paulina Hunter as Pechanga when they both were on the reservation (pre 1895)
From their own website: The location is now near the west end of Loma Linda Road on the Temecula Creek Golf-course's fairway. The late Antonio Ashman, a vaunted Pechanga Tribal member born three years after the eviction recounted how the eviction-trek ended: "They just dumped them here"— pointing to a low hill near the golf-course. "Just dumped them!"
This means he was born in 1878 and was old enough at 20 to know Paulina Hunter when she was alive. Again,
Pechanga Council, you have shamed the memory of the elders who suffered and triumphed together in the 1870's.
