OPINION: Greed has taken over Tribes; NO non gaming tribes are Terminating Members.

Author Robert Hayward has a opinion piece at the NCTIMES.

It is one of those strange twists of fate that has been proven over and over in history: The conquered people eventually take on the worst characteristics of those who conquered them. It has manifested in Southern California with the advent of Indian gaming, in a terrible way.

It wasn't long ago that the local tribes were all limping along in abject poverty, trying to gain a foothold after being stripped of everything and relegated to reservations. It is a sad and brutal history, no different than all other tribes in this country.

Once the gaming compacts were signed, and big money rolled in, it was everyone's hope that it would help all tribes. While there are great stories of success, unfortunately greed has raised its ugly head.

......

The federal government changed that in 1934 and began requiring certain amounts of Indian ancestry to qualify for benefits from the treaties (all of which the government eventually broke). Tribes began adopting blood quantum rules for inclusion into tribes. The DEA even set blood quanta minimums for participation in certain Native American ceremonies, clearly overstepping their bounds.

If we are honest, and not afraid of upsetting those who hold too much power, the fact that the San PascualTribe kicked out 80 members, PECHANGA cut 130, OP: NO, they cut 230 Adults, and half again as many children. Rincon tried to cut 70, and PALA is now working hard to eliminate at least 120 members from their tribal roles is all about greed and politics, nothing more.

You do not see any nongaming tribes involved in this nonsense. And had these casinos never been built, none of this would be happening, period!
Read the full post at NCTIMES   adding your comments there, shows the paper that you are reading their stories.

To add to the greed story, a reminder that the total theft of per capita in CA in just a few tribes has reached over $500 MILLION

Tribal members say that those who want to regain their rightful place in their respective tribes are greedy.

Yet, they see no greed in taking another members per capita, strip their citizenship and tribal rights.

Regaining our rightfull place has nothing to do with greed on our part. It has to do with: "We were members!" And we, as members, were entitled to any benefits that are available
to any other member. That is the "Bottom Line!" The "Corruption and Greed" lies "Solely" with the "Casino Indian!" The real issue here is that the "Casino Indian" refuses to honor their respective "Constitutions and Bylaws" intergrated with "Tribal Law, as the true measure of what should be. They were good enough for our ancestors, and stood the test of time, till the advent of the "Casino!" Wasn't perfect, but what ever is? But mostly "Honest and Fair" to the extent that it was for the good of all. With the "Casino" it has become not for the good of all, but all for the good of a few! As one "Tribal Leader said: "That Silly Little Constitution!"......"For Corruption Is, What Corruption Does!"...Sovereignty being the "Real Issue" here, and the "Tribal Leaders" doing all these "Illegal Acts" under the "Gize" of: We can do anything we want, we are a Sovereign Nation! "And The Corruption and Greed Continues," because they think that they are "Above the Law!" But with "Corruption" you walk a "Fine Line" and you eventually get "Caught!" Wait for it, Wait for it: "It's Coming!" Now just "Hide and Watch, for it will come........

"Non Gaming Tribes" still hold their "Heritage and Birthright" first and foremost. "Ancestory" is everything. As it should be. For their children and their children's children to learn "The Indian way!" This is all being lost with the "Casino Indian" and the quest for "Greed and Political Power!"

sinnival 'ataxx! 'om teetila 'attaxum pomteela? qay!

sinnival 'ataxx teetila, "yeah right."

A lot of us don't know our language either but at least some of us tried to learn but are no longer allowed to attend our classes.

But, it is safe to say, that almost all, if not all of the tribal members who come her to harrass us know nothing about the native tounge.

But you are really Pechanga and I am not, then what did I say to you above?

Cuz, is our "Native Language" still taught in the "Pechanga School System? Is our "Colorful Past" even "Explored?" Are our children (You know the few that are left) being shown the "Indian Way?" Are our "Elders" allowed to council our young, or is that lost also?

Yes, they do teach things like the language to children at the Pechanga school but, of course, our children and we adults too who have been disenrolled, as I was going to the language class, are left out.

So our tribe robbed us of a lot more than just money.

It is taught at Soboba and, I think, at Rincon as they speak the same dialect, but my heart was ripped out of me when we were kicked out so I never went to those other classes.

Sad, but the adult class had less than about 15 people who went regularily and some of the people in the class were from other local tribes, not Pechanga.

So those sinnaval 'attaxum seem to only care about money

When I said sinnaval 'attax I was calling this person a money person and sinnaval 'attaxum means money people.

There tribal member, I a non member, just taught you something from my language that you should know but probably don't.
