Dear House Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, We Need YOU to Hold Hearings on Enforcement of the Indian Civil Rights Act

Dear Chairman Issa,

The ICRA was originally introduced and enacted as an effort to protect individual Indians form the “arbitrary and capricious” actions of tribal governments and/or officials. Unfortunately, while the ICRA was well intended and expressly forbid tribes from taking actions that violated an
individual’s rights, the ICRA failed to include an effective enforcement mechanism which would hold tribal officials accountable for violations of its provisions.

As a result, the number of civil rights violations in Indian Country has reached epidemic proportions. Thousands upon thousands have been stripped or denied the basic due process and equal protection rights provided for in the United States Constitution, the ICRA, and tribal laws.

Oversight hearings on the current civil rights situation in Indian Country are not only warranted, they are long over due. Therefore, I respectfully request that your Committee hold hearings on the civil rights problem in Indian Country and the lack of enforcement of the ICRA

Mr. Chairman, in April of 2010, Rep. Mike Thompsen thought the acts of some tribal governments so egregious, he requested then Chairman Nick Rahall hold hearings on the ICRA. This is one effort that should be bi-partisan. You should lead the way towards doing what is right.

With tribes like Pechanga, and Picayune, decimating their population and just recently, PALA which is also in your district joining a select crew of disgraceful tribal councils, PLEASE take the lead in providing enforcement of ICRA and protection for individual Indians. Sir, Apartheid is being practiced on reservations now and you need to help stop this from continuing.

Congress needs to act now and use their plenary power to prevent the many unscrupulous tribes throughout Indian Country from committing genocide against their own People. Enrollment issues have been ignored, elders and future generations are suffering, and there is no other alternative than for Congress to act to preserve and restore the tribal, civil, and human rights of thousands of Indian People who are being abused by their corrupt tribal governments due to greed and power struggles within tribes. How can you and other members of Congress stand by and say nothing, allowing the destruction of our People?

O.K., guys, here's what went down with my interview for "Tribal Affairs Advocate." I could hold my own with queations that we asked, and that went really well. But up to now I though it was a non-paid position. It's a paid position. But again my chances are "Slim to None. Because they said if selected "I would have to move to Sacramento!" Won't do that! But I did say I would work out of L.A. and go to Sacramento when needed. So I don't think tthis is going to work out. "BUT STRANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPENED!" So I guess we'll have to "Hide and Watch?"

Can Issa be persuaded to use his position to HELP Native Americans who have been hurt by tribes in HIS DISTRICT? Or are they acting this way because they know he won't raise a hand to stop them?

Who did you interview with Smokey?

My interview was with Nettie Sablehouse: Senior Adviser to Gov. Brown. And with: Veronica Ortiz-Torres. One of the things that I was asked: Do I know of anyone who would oppose my appointment? I can't think of anyone who would, for I don't frequent the political arena, other then the commentary I put out there about "Native American Rights" for all to see. I have been "Especially Hard" on Tribal Leaders and their lack of "Compassion" for "Genuine Indians" in their charge. When they side step and pass over "Tribal Laws" of their respective "Constitutions and Bylaws" for nothing more then "Corruption, Greed, and their own Self Worth, it is "Unexcusabe!" So I say: "They Now Know Where My Loyalties Lie!" And you have got to know that an "Activist" for the good of "Native American Rights" won't be in their "Game Plan!" And this having to move to "Sacramento" is their trump card. So I guess what I'm saying: This brings it all back to the "Political Arena" for they are always ready to pull up stakes and move wherever. As I told them: I would work out of a L.A. office and travel to the Capital when needed, for the majority of Tribes are in Southern California. My chances: "Slim to None," But I knew this going into this little venture in "Fruitility!" But again: "STANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPENED!" Maybe all they want is a "Figure Head," You know, someone who won't make "Waves?" That's not me! My cause is the "Oppressed Native Americans" and their right to what was always theirs: "Birthright and Heritage," first and formost. So where Gov. Brown is going with this position is anyones guess, but I really don't think that the "Oppressed Native Americans Plight" is going to be addressed, "Now or Ever!" I for one, "Would Have. "So again: STANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPENED!" Let us watch and see how this "Plays Out!" A little "Cynical?" For good reason. "Justice and Fair Treatment" hasn't been ours to embrace: Just "Corruption and Greed" at the hands of these "Casino Indians" who strive to line their "Pockets With Ill Got'n Gains!"
