San Manuel Band Gives $100,000 to San Bernardino Valley College Program

The San Manuel Band of Serrano Mission Indians gave $100,000 to a San Bernardino Valley College program that helps high school seniors in San Bernardino attend their first year of college for free.
College and tribe officials announced the donation today at the school.

The money will go toward Valley-Bound Commitment, a program that targets graduating high school seniors from the area who may not be able to attend college due to financial reasons.

Where is the Luiseño pride? If each of the Pechanga or other Luiseño people gave $1000 each this would dwarf the efforts noted here.

I would not suggest this be a competition... Just saying bettering the community is noble.

I am a proud recipient of a San Manuel scholarship, if it were not for their generosity I would not be able to attend CSUSB. It breaks my heart to think that my own tribe, Pechanga, is more concerned with personal gain. San Manuel understands that it is the people both Indian and non-Indian that make a community strong. They should be applauded. Go to San Manuel not Pechanga

SOBOBA IS ANOTHER TRIBE THAT DOES A LOT FOR OTHER TRIBAL INDIANS, THEIR NOT SELFISH AND THEY KNOW HOW TO MAKE A PERSON FEEL LIKE SOMEONE, YOU THINK PECHANGA WOULD DO THAT FOR ANYONE? forget it ! their greedy mexican wetback indians

That is wonderful and they should be applauded for giving their community help and support. Hurray for them.

I do have a question, If like the hunters, you are or have been removed from a tribe, are you still entitled to the medical and dental and what proof do you present? It would be a shame if you lose not only your tribe, but also your benefits.

When we were terminated from the tribe, we lost:
Right to speak at meetings
Right to attend meetings
Right to vote
Medical Benefits
Dental Benefits
$20,000 per month per capita
Access to education assistance
Silver Feather membership
Right to be buried at rez cemetary

Anyone who still thinks Pechangas Leader is corrupt and a coward is
absolutely correct in his/her assumption.

Jeez, what a thing. I was just checking into the medical and dental for some of you and was under the impression that you can present your CDIB paper or card and the government would pick up the balance. I came to that by a friend who says they show their card and whatever insurance did not pay the government would and you did not have to go to a rez doctor to get that benefit. Apparently she showed her information during surgery and it got paid in full.....

Does that include your spouse? med., dental and vision?

To anonymous 10:15 I know if you are a member of a federally recognized tribe what medical or your insurance did not pay Indian Health would cover the balance. Now you are saying all I need to do is show my CDIB card and it will cover the balance of insurance or medical. If you have information on this it would help many who need help.

I am just relaying what I was told and have no information on it yet. When I get a hold of the person I will let everyone know. I don't think it includes spouses but more if you have a number with the BIA. I have no CDIB card just a letter so I am trying to track down the truth of it. I think it would be great if or while things are so unsettled within tribes if people could still receive government benefits.

After all our tribe might not recognize us but the government does...
